About Keyboard Tester

Keyboard Tester is a free set of tests for keyboards, mice and game controllers. Everything runs in your browser: nothing to install, no account and no payment.

What this site is

Eight tests in one place: a full keyboard tester with rollover and chatter checks, a mouse button and wheel test, a double-click and click-speed test, a scroll wheel test, a gamepad tester, a controller troubleshooting guide, a keyboard ghosting test and a stick drift test. Each page explains what the numbers mean and what to try when something fails.

Every test uses interfaces the browser already provides (keyboard, pointer, wheel and gamepad). There is nothing to download, no account and no payment, and no advertising network runs on the site today.

Who runs it

Keyboard Tester is run by a small team that builds free, browser-based checks for computer hardware. We are not affiliated with any keyboard, mouse or controller maker, we do not sell hardware or repairs, and no result can be bought. The site is paid for by advertising space that is currently unused.

How a test reads your device

A web page only receives what the operating system passes to the browser. That is why Fn, some media keys, PrintScreen on some systems and Win or Cmd shortcuts do not appear here: the system uses them first. The same limit applies to a controller the system has not recognised. When a key or button does not light up, the page shows exactly what the browser reported, so you can tell a dead switch from a key the system is holding back.

A result is an indication, not a diagnosis. It is a good reason to try another cable, port or computer, and a poor basis on its own for a warranty claim.

What we do not do

We do not ask for an account, we do not upload your files or device data, we do not sell data, and we do not produce results with an AI model. Your key presses, clicks and stick movement stay in the page. What the site does record, and how Google Analytics is gated by your consent choice, is set out on the privacy page.

Keeping it accurate

The explanations are checked against how current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari behave, and the copy is reviewed as browsers change. This page was last reviewed on . If something here is wrong or unclear, tell us and we will correct it.

Questions people ask

Who runs Keyboard Tester?

A small team that builds free browser-based hardware tests. The site is not affiliated with any keyboard, mouse or controller manufacturer.

Is Keyboard Tester free?

Yes. Every test is free and needs no account, install or payment. There is no advertising network on the site today; the reserved ad spaces are empty.

Does Keyboard Tester see what I type?

No. Key presses are read inside your browser and shown on the page. The site only receives short counters such as "first key pressed", never which keys you pressed or what you typed.

Can I use a result for a warranty claim?

It is an indication, not a diagnosis. A key that fails here may still be hidden by the system, so confirm the fault on a second computer before you contact a seller or a maker.

How do I report a mistake?

Email support@keyboardtester.site or use the contact form with the page address and what you saw. Corrections are welcome.
